How to get a photo under 20 KB
20 KB is a very small file: roughly the size of a short text message with a thumbnail. This page is already set to Target file size → 20 KB, so you only need to choose your photo. The tool tries the best JPEG quality that still fits, and if the picture is too detailed to fit at its current size, it shrinks the dimensions in small steps until it does.
The result box tells you the exact size in KB, the pixel dimensions and whether the limit is met. If the form also has a minimum size (for example “10–20 KB”), type it in the optional minimum field and the file will be padded safely above it without touching the picture.
Tips for very small files
- Plain images shrink best. A scanned signature or a photo with a clean background reaches 20 KB at much higher quality than a busy photo.
- Crop before you resize. Cutting empty space around a face or signature means the remaining pixels can keep more detail.
- Use JPG. PNG can't be compressed to a target size, so the tool only offers JPG (and WebP) in this mode.
- Exact dimensions? Fill in width and height (px, cm or mm). The photo is centre-cropped to that shape, then compressed to fit.
Where a 20 KB limit shows up
Several Indian recruitment portals cap signatures at 20 KB: the verified rules for the IBPS signature (10–20 KB) and the SSC CGL signature (10–20 KB) are on their own pages with the source links. Always check the notice for your own exam, because limits change between cycles.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my result 19.4 KB and not exactly 20 KB?
The tool looks for the highest quality that stays under your limit, so it usually lands slightly below it. If a form needs at least a certain size, set the minimum field and the file is padded to just above it.
Does 20 KB mean 20,000 or 20,480 bytes?
This tool counts 1 KB as 1,000 bytes, which is the stricter reading. A file that fits under 20,000 bytes also passes validators that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes.
Will compressing to 20 KB make my photo blurry?
It reduces detail, and the smaller the limit the more you lose. Cropping out unneeded background first and keeping the image dimensions modest gives the best-looking 20 KB result.
Is my photo uploaded to compress it?
No. The compression runs in your browser using the canvas API, so the image never leaves your phone or computer.
